David Bolen was born in Ottawa, Canada, and raised in Toronto. He attended the University of British Columbia for his first two years of college, where he studied film production and history. Here he honed his technical skills, working on numerous short and feature films as a camera assistant and assistant editor. In 2011, he transferred into USC's School of Cinematic Arts, where he began to thrive as a director. While at the school, he directed over 10 short films ranging from run-and-gun projects to more advanced thesis films. Some highlights include a Thriller-Western called "Blowing in the Wind" and a Psychological Character Piece called "Hotel Vernonia". In 2013, David was selected from his entire senior year to direct a fully-financed project through the school's prestigious 480 class. Although David's main focus lies in directing, he also continues to work professionally as sound designer and re-recording mixer.
